Chiang Mai - Former US President Jimmy Carter hailed the role played by the volunteers of Takatof International Volunteering Programme in supporting the Habitat for Humanity's annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project 2009 in the Chinag Mai in Thailand.

 UAE plans to become aerospace industry hub in two years

Strata, the advanced composites aerostucture plant constructed in Al Ain, will start its production and deliver the first composite part in the first half of 2010, a senior Mubadala official told Gulf News.
In an interview, Humaid Al Shemmari, Associate Director of Mubadala Aerospace, said: "The first part of the Strata production line will be delivered by the first half of 2010."

The UAE said yesterday it had surpassed the Southeast Asian economic tigers Singapore and Hong Kong in business confidence for two successive quarters this year.

 Thousands walk for diabetes awareness

People turned up with their children who enjoyed the walk with their faces painted and got photographed with enchanting clowns.
The UAE has the second highest prevalence of diabetes in the world at 19.5 per cent. It is estimated that 25 per cent of the UAE's national population is living with diabetes, according to Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in the capital.

 Blue-buckets march marks Children’s Day

Over 5,000 people walked through a portion of Jumeirah Beach Road with blue buckets on their heads, to draw attention to the plight of children who have to walk for miles to get access to drinking water.
The event was organised by Dubai Cares. "This really warms your heart to Dubai,” said one participant. "This is Dubai at its finest.”
The march was led by a band from Dubai Police, and the Freej characters, each with blue buckets on their heads.

 Saadiyat is capital’s new cultural hot spot

The official opening of an exhibition of contemporary art yesterday heralded the arrival of Saadiyat Island as the capital's cultural hot spot.
Manarat al Saadiyat, which translates as "the lighthouse of Saadiyat” is the first of the island's galleries and opened with an exhibition called Disorientation II.
