A visit to the UAE would be incomplete without
spending time in some of the countrys fascinating souqs or traditional
markets. Each of the main cities has an area devoted to these shops and
they are usually arranged in groups so that all the gold shops, spice
shops, craft shops, perfume shops, clothing shops or whatever are close
together. This makes it easy to compare goods and prices and maintains
a healthy competition for your business among the shopkeepers. In addition
to these specialized shopping areas, there are some more general souqs
areas that have been preserved in the traditional state, including grocery
shops, cafes, tin-smiths, and everyday goods. Certain markets are held
in town centres on special days such as the Friday Market at Masafi.
