The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has launched a campaign in the Eastern Region to collect humanitarian aid for the Iraqis by setting up 26 dedicated centres. The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Aqwaf has also been cooperating with the Al Ain branch of the RCA, a major contributor to the authority's countrywide drive. The RCA branch has set up 16 collection centres in Al Ain city area and 10 in the rural areas, including Sweihan, Zakher, Al Hyer, Mazyed, Al Wagan and Al Masoudi. They function from 8am to 8pm daily. Several teams are visiting different areas and 70 mosques in and outside Al Ain City have been identified to raise funds during the campaign entitled 'Share Our Food And Medication With Our Brethren'.

The funds and other items will be sent to Iraq through the RCA's head office in Abu Dhabi that is collaborating with the international aid organisations and Iraqi Red Crescent Society. It has recently sent the first consignment of 70 tonnes of food including 20 tonnes of sugar, 30 tonnes of rice, 1,500 cartons of macaroni and 2,400 bottles of vegetable oil through Jordan to Iraq. It will also implement a USUS$87.5 million 'UAE Charity Bread' project with the help of Iraq Red Crescent Society. Under this project the RCA will provide flour for Baghdad for making 10,000 loaves daily for distribution to different hospitals, orphanages and social welfare bodies. (The Gulf News)
