H.H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, said that there is no doubt that December2, stands out as a special day in the memories of the UAE people. In a statement to "Dir al Watan”, on the occasion, Sheikh Saqr said that December2, is a day that will always be remembered as it stands for the renaissance of a modern country with a dynamic leadership, whose tireless efforts led to the popularity of this part of the world, he said.

"As we celebrate the 31st anniversary of this day, I wish to, first of all, convey our profound congratulations and best wishes to my brother, President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, my brethren, members of the Supreme Council Rulers of the emirates and the UAE people,” he said and prayed to God for many returns of this happy occasion. Talking on the UAE's achievements since the establishment of the federation, Sheikh Saqr said that: "As we celebrate this anniversary, the UAE continues to chalk more successes.

As usual, the country has witnessed a lot of developments in all areas, including political, economic, educational, health and social areas,” he said, adding "These have consolidated peace and stability in the country and achieved comfort for its people.” He said that the country continued to give its utmost priority to the development of its human resources. "This is based on our deep belief that man is the cornerstone of any civilisation and plays a pivot role in the development and progress of any nation,” he said, adding that the UAE leadership deeply believe that the educated sons and daughters of this country form the major pillars on which the federation can depend. "That is why the government focuses its maximum attention on providing schools, institutes, universities and other institutions of learning throughout the country,” he said.

He pointed out that the UAE has also done a lot in areas of security. This is by ensuring that the country's armed forces were well trained and well equipped to effectively defend the country and its people. He said that Sheikh Zayed has adopted a nationalistic policy towards Arab issues, including his unflinching support for the Palestinians in their struggle to achieve freedom and regain their rights by establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. "Sheikh Zayed calls for restraint and rejects the use of force in resolving any misunderstanding or dispute,” he said. "He also calls for respect for all UN resolutions, without exception, so as to achieve global peace and stability,” he added.

Based on this policy, he said, sheikh Zayed made several initiatives to see to the peaceful resolution of the issue of Iran's occupation of the three UAE islands of Abu Musa, and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, through direct dialogue and negotiations, or through international arbitration. This is to achieve justice, he said. He expressed the hope that the three islands would be returned to the UAE so as to boost Islamic fraternity and relations of good neighbourliness, as well as peace and stability in the region.
