A UAE aircraft carrying 40 tonnes of relief supplies arrived in Algeria last Thursday to help victims of the floods and torrential rains which hit Algeria recently. Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, said that the relief material includes blankets and foodstuff. He added that a delegation from the society was on board the plane to assess the requirements and damages of the floods. President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, ordered a quick dispatch of supplies to the affected areas in Algeria. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and President of the RCS, supervises the dispatch of relief assistance. He earlier said that the RCS team will also assess the needs of the people. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
