5th UAE Armed Forces team arrives to join UAE field hospital in Balakot

Islamabad - A fifth team of the UAE Armed Forces arrived here yesterday at the Chaklala air base to expand its relief operations and medical services in the earthquake-hit areas on rotation. A batch of six seriously injured with spinal cord fractures were also brought back on board the C-130 Ambulance plane after treatment. The patients hail from Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Balakot. They were later shifted to the military hospital in Rawalpindi.

A total of eighteen injured people accompanied by relatives have so far returned from UAE. It may be noted that a total of 43 serious cases were air lifted to UAE in consultation with the Pakistan Army. The head of the Armed Forces team, Brigadier Ahmed Abdul Raheem al Qubaisi told WAM that his team will continue its major role for providing medical services to the earthquake affected persons and study the serious cases in coordination with the Pakistan Army before shifting them to UAE.

He said the medical team in Balakot has so far attended to 12 thousand injured and sick people since 12 October. The patients undergoing treatment are provided temporary tent shelter near the field hospital. He added that the new 18 - member of the medical team accompanied with maintenance and engineering units have left for Balakot soon after their arrival.

Meanwhile, another plane arranged by UAE Red Crescent as part of an air bridge to deliver relief assistance to the victims arrived here at the Islamabad Airport Tuesday carrying 43 tonnes of relief supplies donated mainly by the UAE Scouts It is the 17th plane of the Red Crescent to bring donations of various section of the UAE society. The relief supplies includes medicines, surgical equipment, food items, blankets and warm clothes. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
