Islamabad - A total of 70 planes have airlifted 2,800 tones of relief supplies from the UAE to Chaklala air base through the air bridge between the two countries since the Oct 8, earthquake, the UAE Ambassador in Islamabad Ali Mohammad Al Shamsi said on Monday, according to an online report in the Pak Tribune.com.

The relief goods were donated by the government as well as people from all sections of society in the UAE and the Pakistani community, the Ambassador said. He specially mentioned the UAE government's response for the provision of US$ 100 million as urgent assistance and the continued efforts by the Red Crescent to help the quake-survivors. He said the planes have so far brought 2,800 tonnes supplies. The supplies include blankets, tents, beds, plastic sheets, food and clothes.

The Ambassador informed that the UAE will set up the fourth water purification plant in the quake-affected areas within a couple of days. The UAE has already installed three purification plants, one in Muzaffarabad and two in Balakot. Each plant pumps 10,000 gallon drinking water per day. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
