Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called on the world's 'force of goodness' to further boost aspects of solidarity with humanitarian issues in the world.

In a s statement to mark the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day, which falls on 8th of May, Sheikh Hamden urged the international community and humanitarian organisations to exert more efforts towards developing most vulnerable societies and to join hands in warding off risks facing millions of people around the world due to the current global financial crisis, food shortage, water scarcity, poverty, hunger and epidemics.

"8th of May represents a turning point in the march of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement which seeks to achieve its ambitions in the humanitarian arenas and to confront challenges facing humanitarian works," Sheikh Hamdan said.

Sheikh Hamdan underlined the importance of the day for the RCA, saying that it provides an opportunity "to evaluate the processes, to streamline them and to actively contribute in rallying support to the new programmes." "We are working hard to utilize our potentials to the maximum and to boost synergies and coordination with other organisations," he stated.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasised the important role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement in the international humanitarian map despite the challenges and lack of resources.

"Over 150 years of operation have given the movement a huge experience in dealing with crises and disasters," he noted. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
