The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) has hosted a lunch banquet in honour of visiting President of India Pratibha Patil and her accompanying delegation.

In remarks at the banquet, the Indian President hailed the UAE, and Abu Dhabi in particular, for capabilities to continue to make huge economic achievements in record time, noting that Abu Dhabi turned itself into one of the world's most modern cities, thanks to the farsighted policies and visions of the UAE leadership.

She further described India's relations with the Gulf as "crucial.... not only for geographical considerations or, for that matter of fact, for meeting our energy needs" but for the Indian community which, she said, constitutes a workforce in the regional countries, contributes to their economic growth and serves as a bridge between Indian subcontinent and the region.

For her part, Sheikha Lubna hailed the strong ties between the UAE and India which she said is the UAE's largest trading partner.

Al-Rumaithi noted that ADCCI, under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is making efforts to further economic and trade relations with India.

"The business relationship between the Indian subcontinent and the Gulf are long-standing and today the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular consider the Republic of India as one of the most prominent and oldest trading partners," Al-Rumaithi said.

He further noted that relations and close ties between UAE and India have witnessed growth in various spheres.

"During the past few years, the number of Indian companies operating in the UAE reached 4356 in the emirates of Abu Dhabi," Al-Rumaithi said. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
