The region's biggest and most important gas and oil event, the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), will get underway in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

An annual event for the first time in its history, ADIPEC is set to welcome more than 50,000 energy professionals from 80 countries around the world. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) will host the event until 13 November.

Held under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and supported by the Ministry of Energy, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ADIPEC has drawn global energy leaders, policy makers, innovators, technicians and research scholars to the UAE capital. Under the theme Energy for all in a Changing World, the event will address the key challenges and opportunities of an evolving energy industry with a special focus on the increasingly important role of gas in the energy mix. The pressing need to encourage women and young people to pursue careers in the industry will also be addressed at the four-day event.

Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei (UAE), Rt Hon Greg Barker (UK), His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy (Oman) and His Excellency Dr M Veerappa Moily (India) are among the Energy Ministers confirmed to participate in a Ministerial Panel.

Mohammed A Sahoo Al Suwaidi, Director of the Gas Directorate at ADNOC and ADIPEC 2013 Chairman, said: "This year's exhibition and conference will serve as a watershed for Abu Dhabi in highlighting its role as a global energy leader. ADIPEC is a platform designed to serve the needs of the industry, shining a light on key issues and facilitating the process of identifying innovative solutions. Abu Dhabi is a proven, responsible and increasingly diversified energy leader and an important contributor to the global dialogue." He added, "This week, we welcome more than 50,000 energy executives including some of the world's key energy leaders to discuss everything from the future of the energy mix to talent management. The UAE has rarely hosted a collection of more prominent industry experts. I look forward to witnessing the valuable contribution ADIPEC makes to the global energy industry, and to the development and on-going diversification of our economy." The 16th edition of the event includes an expanded technical conference and a new dedicated business conference at which CEOs from the world's biggest energy companies will present and discuss global energy security, as well as issues related to the modernisation of infrastructure, and the need for an efficient supply value-chain for sustainable development of the sector and the economy as a whole.

Critically, ADIPEC will for the first time focus on the important role of women in the gas and oil industry through a dedicated women-in-industry panel. It will also feature Young ADIPEC - a comprehensive programme of events, outreach and education designed to encourage the industry's future leaders. Young ADIPEC will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. Both themes will form new categories at the ADIPEC Awards, winners of which will be announced during a glittering ceremony on 10 November hosted by ADNOC.

Occupying more than 30,000 sq. metres of exhibition space at ADNEC, ADIPEC is considered one of the region's super events, offering significant direct and indirect economic benefits to Abu Dhabi.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Chief Commercial Officer, ADNEC, said: "ADNEC is a world-class facility that is well-equipped to host a frontline industry event such as ADIPEC. Our award-winning facilities, world-class hotels, excellent infrastructure and professional business support have been specially tailored to meet the requirements of events of this magnitude. We are very pleased to be supporting ADIPEC's first annual edition and to further building on Abu Dhabi's reputation as a business tourism destination." C-suite executives set to headline the panel discussions include Bob Dudley, CEO, BP; Toshiaki Kitamura, President and CEO, Inpex; Moon Kyu Suh, President and CEO, Knoc; Ben Van Beurden, CEO Designate, Shell; Abdelhamid Zerguin, CEO, Sonatrac; Helge Lund, CEO, Statoil; Christophe de Margerie, CEO, Total; Ali Al Jarwan, CEO, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company, ADNOC Group, and Carl Sheldon, CEO, TAQA amongst others.

Simon Mellor, Senior Vice President of dmg::events, organisers of ADIPEC, said: "ADIPEC facilitates the development of the oil and gas sectors by offering an unrivalled platform for discussion and interaction. This year's event has more to offer than ever before, the establishment of a business conference, the expansion of the technical conference and the introduction of Young ADIPEC demonstrates the holistic nature of ADIPEC's role within the industry." "2012 was a record event for ADIPEC and we expect to register record attendance at this year's edition too. At a time when the industry is witnessing heightened activity, we anticipate the event to live up to its promise and exceed expectations," added Mellor. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
