ADIPEC to get underway Sunday

A total of 1200 companies from 45 countries will converge in Abu Dhabi for the 10th Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference which will open on October 13th. Acknowledged as a premier oil and gas event in the Middle East and North Africa, and one of the largest in the world, ADIPEC 2002 provides manufacturers and services providers with an international platform to promote the latest technologies, products and services. Being organized by General Exhibition Corporation (GEC) in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the event presents the oil industry players with an unparalleled opportunity to introduce themselves to the lucrative markets in the region while allowing others with an existing presence to consolidate their position in the market.



A galaxy of 2500 respected scientists, experts, researchers and specialists from various institutions of oil and gas around the world will be come here for the event, which will be held under the auspices of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council. OPEC Secretary General Alvaro Silva, his OAPEC counterpart Abdul Aziz Al Teraiki along with OPEC and non-OPEC oil ministers, decision- makers and CEOs of major oil companies will attend the three-day forum. Held under the theme 'Adopting to future challenges : people, technology and environment', ADIPEC 2002 will focus on the most important prospects of oil andgas industry, both upstream and downstream.



The conference will provide a unique opportunity to for experts and professionals to disseminate and exchange their latest information, knowledge and experience on a wide spectrum of issues and challenges in exploration, drilling, production, marketing, management, IT and health safety and environment.



Ali Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Acting Director of the General Exhibition Corporation has recently said the magnitude of the international participation in this year's exhibition and conference underscores the importance of oil industry in the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi emirate in particular. Over 18,000 visitors are expected to visit this year's ADIPEC as compared to just 13,000 in 2000.



According to the organisers the tenth edition of the event is much bigger in space than the previous edition and will be housed in three halls covering an area of 8,200 against 6,200 square metres in the 9th edition. Total space of the event is 21,000 square metres. Exhibitors at this year's edition also witnessed marked increase to 1200 from 867 in 2000 edition. ADIPEC 2002 will see for the first time, pavilions from the United States, Denmark, Russia, Italy and France, whereas in the past, local agents of companies represented these countries. Regular official pavilions from the UK, Germany, Canada, Norway etc., are expected to be larger than the previous edition.



A dedicated website that been created and a quarterly update on ADIPEC (ADIPEC News) has been launched. ADIPEC was promoted in SYROIL exhibition in Damascus, Offshore Technology Conference, Houston, and the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Canada. Another special feature this year will be an IT Village within the exhibition, showcasing solutions for the oil and gas industry. Murshid Al Rumaithi, Assistant General Manager, ADCO and the Conference Chairman, emphasised that the goal is to make ADIPEC a landmark of Abu Dhabi's oil and gas industry and expose it efficiently to the international market. ADIPEC is one of the oldest events of its kind in the region, which accounts for two-third of oil and gas reserves in the world.



Since its inception in 1984 as a local exhibition, ADIPEC has grown to become one of the largest and most informative oil and gas events in the world. The Technical Programme Committee of the 10th ADIPEC has selected the topics and speakers for the conference. It has also decided on four panels and 14 sessions for the conference programme.
