Advanced Military Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Centre, or AMMROC, one of Mubadala's defence-related units, will upgrade six C-130 transport aircraft of the UAE Armed Forces, extending the fleet's longevity.

A joint venture between Mubadala Aerospace, Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin, has signed a contract with the UAE Armed Forces to complete full modifications on the avionics of the aircraft. The announcement by AMMROC took place during the International Defence Exhibition Conference 2013.

The modifications will be focused on making the six C-130 aircraft "state of the art” by changing the avionics in the cockpits from analogue to digital using innovative technologies and computerised systems. Transitioning to a digital cockpit will allow the UAE Armed Forces to extend the service life of the six C-130s. AMMROC is set to begin its work on the aircraft in the next eight months, with the contract valued at Dh157 million. The spokesman for the UAE Armed Forces announced the deal between AMMROC and the UAE Armed Forces on the second day of the defence show.

"AMMROC's expertise in maintenance, repair and overall makes us the right partner to help transition the UAE's Armed Forces valuable C-130 aircraft to best serve in the 21st century,” AMMROC chief executive officer Fahad Al Shamesi said.

He said through its many existing contracts, AMMROC looks forward to helping extract value from existing aircraft through providing superior service as the UAE Armed Forces works to extend the longevity of its fleet. – Khaleej Times
