A Dh 300-million complex of ministries is now under construction at the Al Bateen area here. The contractor, the Emirates Real Estate Corporation (EREC), is one of the pioneering national establishments in real estate sector. According to its director general Abdullah Al Heraiz, EREC was able to forge "a real partnership" between the public and private sectors. "EREC role is not confined to dealing with the governmental sector. Over 300 local and international companies specialized in real estate are registered with us," said Al Heraiz.

He said that his corporation was engaged in the design and construction of government buildings and installations before they were leased to ministries and government agencies inside the country and abroad. This, he added, was over and above other tasks such as the insurance and maintenance of those buildings.

The 11-buiding complex under construction will house 16 ministries and 20 government agencies stretched over a total area of 9,700 sq. metres of which 7,300 is a build up area. Heraiz said EREC board of directors had recently decided to buy buildings as hostels for UAE female students in Jordanian Amman and Irbid cities as well as in Cairo, Egypt.
