Abdullah Bin Zayed winds up Latin American tour

Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan concluded his Latin American tour with a meeting with Jose Serra, Governor of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral ties and friendship between the UAE and the Republic of Brazil and discussed the possibilities for opening new channels and mechanisms for bilateral cooperation between the UAE and the state of Sao Paulo to promote the efforts of both countries in the development of economic relations, trade, investment and industrial projects.
The Governor welcomed the visit of Sheikh Abdullah and hailed the level of good relations between the UAE and the Republic of Brazil.
He also expressed the desire of the State of Sao Paulo to expand horizons of relations and develop cooperation with the UAE.
Sheikh Abdullah then unveiled the plaque marking the beginning of the expansion project of Embraport, a multi-modal port terminal under development next to Santos Port in Sao Paulo state through a joint venture between DP World and the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
The ceremony was attended by HE Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State, Ambassador Khalid Al Ghaith, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Ali Osaimi UAE Ambassador to Brazil and non resident ambassador to Cuba and Chile, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman Dubai World and DP World, Mohammed Sharaf, CEO of DP World and other officials.
Brazilian Minister of Ports Pedro Brito and other state officials represented the Brazilian government at the event.
During the opening ceremony Sheikh Abdullah thanked the Government of Brazil for their support to the UAE firms investing in Brazil.
He stressed the keenness of the UAE to support projects carried out by UAE firms around the world as they play an effective role in forging closer ties between the UAE and various countries.
As part of his tour of South America, Sheikh Abdullah had visited Mexico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Colombia and Brazil.
The tour aimed at enhancing the ongoing communication with officials of the South American countries by identifying the developments in their economies as well as the opportunities to promote and strengthen the relations.
Sheikh Abdullah was accompanied by a high-level delegation including HE Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State and a number of Foreign Ministry officials and representatives of the public and private sector companies operating in the oil industry, energy, trade and tourism.
The visit also aimed at identifying the investment opportunities in these countries, which will contribute to open up new areas for future cooperation between the UAE and South America. The visit also gave a new framework for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, renewable energy, trade, investment and exchange of expertise.
Sheikh Abdullah's visit to Latin America is an important new step toward closer ties and will strengthen the relations between the UAE and South America, where he held talks with senior state officials as per directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
