Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE foreign minister, and Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy, yesterday held talks with David McCormick, Undersecretary in the US Department of Commerce.

They discussed economic and commercial relations between the UAE and the US, and the developments in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and issues to be discussed during the second round of talks on FTA. During March 2004, the United States signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) with the UAE to provide a formal framework for dialogue on economic reform and trade liberalisation.

The United States and the UAE then began negotiating a Free Trade Agreement in March 2005, with a second round in May, the third in November and the fourth in January 2006. The next round is expected to start this month, and a primary agreement should be reached this year. (Gulf News)
