Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke on Thursday over the phone with Ali Zidan, Libya's interim Prime Minister, to follow up circumstances surrounding the attack on the UAE Embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli and attempts by some terrorist groups to mar good ties between the two brotherly countries.

During the conversation, Sheikh Abdullah thanked the Libyan prime minister for his personal follow up of the incident.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the attack which targeted the Embassy compound early Thursday and called on the Libyan authorities to launch an immediate investigation to determine who are behind this criminal act and bring those responsible to justice.

Meanwhile, the ministry has summoned Libyan acting Charge d'affaires Dr. Idris Ali on the backdrop of this terrorist act.

Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti, Ministry Undersecretary, said ' The UAE emphasises on the sanctity of diplomatic work and protection of diplomatic missions and on the strict commitment to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, in particular articles (22) and (29).' He demanded the Libyan authorities to open a swift inquiry on the attack, which caused slight damage to the compound. He affirmed that no one of the embassy staff was injured during the attack.
