Abdullah bin Zayed concludes Asian tour

UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed said that the world is passing through a difficult economic situation under the impact of the global financial crisis and its negative repercussions. The worsening situation brought about by sharp fluctuations in the oil prices and the global food crisis makes it imperative that everyone should coordinate each other more effectively and increase the volume of mutual investments among them, Sheikh Abdullah added.

He said that during his tour of the Asian countries, which included South Korea, Brunei, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives, he held talks with several top officials and explained to them the developments in the UAE's economy and the ever increasing investment opportunities in various fields including industry, communications, IT, tourism, energy and technology transfer.

Sheikh Abdullah said that UAE has developed with these countries deep-rooted relations, which has grown stronger over time. 'We are partners in cooperation and are bound by excellent friendship and mutual interests', said Sheikh Abdullah.

In his Asian tour, the minister led a delegation, which included Director of Asian Affairs Ahmed Abdullah Al Musalli, UAE ambassador to S.Korea Abdullah Mohammed Abdul Wahid Al-Mue'nna, UAE ambassador to Bangladesh Khalfan Batal Al Mansouri, ambassador to Sri Lanka Mahmud Mohammed Mahmud Al Mahmud.

During his talks with the officials of the Asian countries Sheikh Abdullah expressed UAE's interest in enhancing relations with these countries, especially in the field of joint economic projects and partnerships, joining the private sector and business communities in these countries with their counterparts in the UAE.

Sheikh Abdullah also conveyed to the heads of states of the countries he visited, greetings from President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

During his visit, Sheikh Abdullah explored with the high ranking officials in these countries the possibilities for setting up joint projects and enhancing bilateral trade.

He also offered to endeavour for setting up strategic economic cooperation with these countries in fields of technology transfer, training, workforce, healthcare, agriculture and other fields.

In his discussions with the officials Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the role of investment, describing it as the cornerstone of the economic revival.

Sheikh Abdullah also underscored the vast potential of the Asian markets and highlighted the geographic importance of UAE as it is considered the gateway to the Middle Eastern markets. He also highlighted UAE's open economic policy and its liberal economic legislations encouraging the private sector, in addition to the stability and security the country enjoys.

In South Korea Sheikh Abdullah held talks with Prime Minister Han Seung-soo and Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and discussed with them ways for boosting bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.

In Brunei Sheikh Abdullah held talks with ministers of Foreign Affairs, Development and Energy. During his tour of Bangladesh, Sheikh Abdullah met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and ministers of Environment and Energy.

In Nepal Sheikh Abdullah held talks with the President of Nepal and Prime Minister. He also met the Nepalese foreign minister.

Visiting India Sheikh Abdullah met with the Vice President of India and the ministers of External Affairs and Energy and discussed with them ways for enhancing economic relations between the two countries.

During the visit to Maldives Sheikh Abdullah met the President of Maldives and held extensive meetings with several ministers. The discussions featured subjects such as cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, joint investment and bilateral trade.

Winding up his tour of Asia, Sheikh Abdullah visited Sri Lanka and met the Sri Lankan President and the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Energy. Mutual cooperation in the fields of agriculture, environment, tourism and economy were discussed. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
