Abdullah bin Zayed continues European tour posted on 25/06/2009
UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, continues his European tour, covering Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Estonia, Macedonia, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus and others.
Sheikh Abdullah discussed cooperation and friendship ties with the officials in those countries in all fields, particularly in the areas of economic, tourist, cultural, agricultural, educational, energy and information technology. He conveyed the regards of the UAE leadership to the officials in those countries
The UAE FM stressed the need for boosting the relations and cooperation between UAE companies and businesspersons with their counterparts in those countries. He added that the UAE is tourism and business hub to those countries due to its stability and security, adding that the UAE has inked several economic agreements with those countries, among others, the trade exchange, the economic and trade, technological, investment protection, avoid double taxation and setting up free trade zones and other agreements.
Sheikh Abdullah had commenced his European tour in Croatia, where he met Croatian President Stepan Mesic, Croatian Minister of Water and Urban Planning and Deputy Foreign Minister. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways of boosting them, particularly in commercial, investment and economic sectors. Then he headed to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he met Bosnian President Haris Silajdzic and Foreign Trade Minister. The need for boosting the economic and investment cooperation ties between the two countries was stressed in the two meetings. The UAE delegation invited the Bosnian businesspersons to visit the UAE to benefit from untapped investment opportunities.
The Bosnian side welcomed the visit of Sheikh Abdullah, which they said "reflects depth of relations with the UAE, which has become one of the major countries having strong ties with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The UAE FM visited Montenegro, where he met its President Filip Vujanovic, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. The two sides discussed cooperation and friendship ties and ways of enhancing them in the best interest of the two peoples. Sheikh Abdullah exchanged views with the officials on a number of the regional and international issues. The talks also tackled joint cooperation in the areas of economy, tourism, development of ports and airports, renewable energy, energy and protection of investments.
Sheikh Abdullah met in Albania, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, and Foreign Minister. The two sides discussed bolstering of the trade and economic ties through forging economic and investment partnership. The UAE delegation briefed the Albanian side about services provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and its conditions for supporting the developmental projects in Albania.
The UAE FM visited Macedonia, where he met Macedonian Foreign Antonio Milososki, Economy and Environment Ministers. The meetings stressed the need for opening new avenues for enhancing cooperation and friendship ties in the political, economic, trade, energy, renewable energy, educational, cultural and tourism fields. Sheikh Abdullah invited the Macedonian FM to visit the UAE to acquaint himself with investment opportunities and facilities offered to the investors.
In Estonia, Sheikh Abdullah and the delegation accompanying him were received by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, who described the UAE FM visit to be the first ever official visit by the GCC official to the country.
Sheikh Abdullah visited Georgia, where he received by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Georgian Prime Minister. The two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of economic, trade, investment, air transport, communications, renewable energy, banks and education.
In Armenia, Sheikh Abdullah was received by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Armenian Foreign Minister and Armenian Speaker. Sheikh Abdullah signed two agreements: the first on mutual pre entry visit visa exemptions for holders of the diplomatic passports, and the second on the exchange of land grants for setting up diplomatic missions. The UAE Foreign minister and the delegation briefed the Armenian officials about the investment opportunities and merits in the UAE. In Turkey, the UAE FM met his Turkish counterpart Ahmed Davutoglu. They discussed the cooperation between the two countries and ways of boosting them. Sheikh Abdullah reiterated at the joint press conference that the aim of the visit was to explore trade, investment and the privatisation fields in Turkey, indicating that the UAE was keen to boost the trade ties with Turkey.
In Bulgaria, Sheikh Abdullah met Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin. The two officials discussed cooperation ties and ways to boost them, particularly in the field of energy.
In Greece, the UAE FM met Greek President Karolos Papoulias and the Greek Speaker. The two sides discussed the economic and trade ties and ways to boost them. They also agreed to extend cooperation to the areas of culture and renewable energy. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – Emirates News Agency, WAM
