Doha - Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Information and Culture yesterday commended the speech delivered by H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the inaugural session of the 23rd GCC Summit which is currently underway here. "The speech was comprehensive and covered crucial issues and challenges that are currently facing the GCC as a region as well as the greater Arab community, including its national security,” said Sheikh Abdullah in a statement to the Qatari News Agency. Sheikh Abdullah, who is a member of the UAE delegation to the summit, said that the UAE would support the call of the Qatari leader for a new Arab strategy that would ensure solidarity and provide a common framework for approaching the ever-increasing future challenges.

Sheikh Abdullah specifically underlined the importance of Sheikh Hamad's call for further expanding the scope of cooperation within the GCC states with the aim of ultimately achieving full integration. Such an integration he noted, would shape the identity and personality of the GCC citizens and keep the region abreast the age of technology and scientific advancement. "Keeping pace with the new age is an absolute necessity for our countries " Sheikh Abdullah said. He also hailed the speech as an important document that would serve a blueprint for common GCC work.
