In a speech delivered at the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah thanked Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid and other Kuwaiti delegates for the warm hospitality and expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and the progress of relations between the two countries in all spheres.

He lauded the outcome of the economic forum which was held yesterday, on the side-lines of the joint committee's meeting, for business leaders and companies from the UAE and Kuwait to highlight investment opportunities and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Also hailing the achievements of the joint UAE-Kuwaiti higher joint committee for cooperation, he cited the agreements signed between the two counties since 2006.

The agreements, including the one on establishing the higher joint committee itself in 2006, have contributed to boosting trade between the UAE and Kuwait to US$3.3 billion in the first eight months of 2012, up from US$3 billion in 2011, Sheikh Abdullah remarked.

He noted that cooperation between the UAE and Kuwait increased the number of national carriers' flights to 151 a week, 35 of which operated by Emirates Airline, 28 by Etihad Airways, 21 by Air Arabia and 49 by flydubai.

This, he noted, contributed to expanding tourism between the two counties and increasing the numbers of tourists and visitors.

He also noted that the two countries have agreed that the committee for political consultations will convene at the earliest possible opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation in military fields. He also referred to the cooperation between Masdar and Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity '&' Water through a joint technical and commercial team, in the fields of water, power and renewable energy.

At the end of his speech, Sheikh Abdullah thanked heads and members of the preparatory committee for organising the successful meeting and said he was looking forward to the committee's next meeting in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and his accompanying delegation and recalled the deeds of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his firm stand by Kuwait during Iraqi occupation in 1990.

"The committee is meeting amid regional and international developments, some of which pose major challenges that require us to confront in an efficient manner," he said.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid said the two countries should reflect to the whole world their keen interest to contribute to the efforts to promote global peace and partnerships among nations.

He indicate that the UAE is Kuwait's top trading partner in the Arab and Islamic worlds and that bilateral trade between the two countries witnessed a six-fold surge during the past 10 years with the UAE becoming fifth largest exporter to Kuwait, while Emirati market is the third largest for Kuwaiti products after China and Saudi Arabia.

He praised the growing joint investments by the two countries, saying that the upcoming joint investment forum represents an opportunity for the two countries to explore potentials of further cooperation.
