Riyadh - Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister and current chairman of the GCC Foreign Ministers Council, presided last Thursday over a meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council with Paula Lehtomaki, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of Finland, the current EU Chairman.

The meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's 61st session. According to Abdul Rahman Al Attiyah, GCC Secretary General, who took part in the meeting, the two sides discussed developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, and other issues of mutual concern.

In a statement issued by the Riyadh-based GCC Secretariat General, Al Attiyah said the meeting reviewed the progress of GCC-EU relations in all areas, particularly on the economic arena. They examined progress of negotiations for a free trade agreement and called for a quick finalisation of this process. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
