Abdullah bin Zayed heads UAE delegation at 62nd UN General Assembly Meeting

New York - Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday headed the UAE delegation at the opening session of the 62nd UN General Assembly meeting. The delegation included UAE Permanent Ambassador at the UN, Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Director of Protocol Department at the Foreign Ministry, Abdul Aziz bin Nasir Al Shamsi, Director of the Foreign Ministry's Department of GCC Affairs, Abdullah Matar Al Mazroue and Director of the Ministry's Department of Organisations and Conferences, Yakoub Yusuf Al Hossani.

Earlier before the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah accepted and attended at the UN premises an Iftar invitation to all heads of states and heads of delegations attending the meeting by UN Secretary General, Ba Ki-moon and his spouse.

Sheikh Abdullah held yesterday on the fringe of UN General Assembly, a series of meetings, including a meeting with Gabonese President, Omar Bongo and his foreign minister. They discussed ways to boost political and economic ties between the UAE and Gabon.

Sheikh Abdullah also met with a number of foreign ministers attending the UN General Assembly meeting, discussed with them bilateral ties and exchanged views with them on issues of mutual interest raised at the UN General Assembly meeting. The UAE Foreign Minister, who also attended a dinner banquet held later yesterday by US President, George W. Bush, will address the UN General Assembly on Friday. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
