Abdullah bin Zayed holds talks at the sidelines of MDGs Summit in New York

New York - UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a series of talks here yesterday at the sideline of the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Summit and the 65th UN General Assembly, with his counterparts who are taking part in the meetings.

Sheikh Abdullah met Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki. They discussed the bilateral relations and stance of two countries over the issues in the UN agenda, including the Iranian Nuclear Programme and the latest developments in the Middle East.

The UAE Foreign Minister also discussed with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Dawood Oghlo the bilateral relations and ways to boost them, as well as position of both countries towards main regional and international issues, notably, the Palestinian issue and the current direct talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

Sheikh Abdullah also discussed with Cypriot FM Cipriano Marco, the bilateral relations and the latest developments about Cyprus Island issue tabled in the agenda and the Middle East's peace process.

The UAE Foreign Minister met his Australian counterpart, Kevin Rudd. They tackled ways to bolster the bilateral relations and discussed position of each country on Palestinian and Afghanistan, the Iranian Nuclear issue and others. The both sides also discussed enhancement of trade ties and easing of entry visas for nationals of both countries.

Sheikh Abdullah also met Bosnia-Herzegovina FM Sven Al- kalaj. They discussed security and political situation and the relations of Bosnia-Herzegovina with neighbours and NATO. Kalaj invited Sheikh Abdullah to visit his country.

The UAE Foreign Minister discussed with Argentinean FM Hector Timerman, the bilateral relations and ways to boost the cooperation ties. They discussed position of both countries regarding the Palestinian issue and the Middle East and reformation of the UN Security Council.

Sheikh Abdullah also met Bangladeshi FM Dipu Moni and Uruguayan FM Luis Almagro. He discussed with Bangladeshi FM labour, trade, economy and industrial relations. Sheikh Abdullah discussed with Uruguay FM the bilateral relations and issues on the UN agenda. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
