Tripoli - Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met here today with the Prime Minister of the interim Libyan Government Dr Abdurrahim al-Keeb, in presence of Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour bin Khayyal and Interior Minister Fawzi Abdul Aal.

Following the meeting, Dr Al Keeb thanked Sheikh Abdullah for paying a visit to new Libya and for the support offered by the UAE to the people of Libya during the revolution. "It was a cordial meeting, full of mutual respect and appreciation. We expressed our affectionate gratitude to the leadership and people of the UAE who did not hesitate in taking a firm stand in support of their brethren in Libya," he added.

Dr Al Keeb went on to say that the Libyan side expressed desire to benefit from the Emirati example in many fields. "We agreed to further discuss ways to enhance cooperation in several spheres." For his part, Sheikh Abdullah offered condolences and sympathy to the families of 17 February revolution martyrs. "It is a great honour to visit Libya after the victorious revolution," he said.

He added that the visit represented an opportunity for him to convey greetings of the UAE leadership to the Libyan Prime Minister and their wishes of further progress and prosperity to the Libyan people. He also said the UAE was ready to offer all kinds of support to the Libyan people.

"During the meeting, I was briefed about Libya's future plans. There is no doubt that our countries enjoy strong and special relations. We are keen to further strengthen ties with the new Libya that is free of oppression and injustice." Sheikh Abdullah left Tripoli following a short visit to Libya.
