Abdullah bin Zayed meets Mayor of Buenos Aires City

Buenos Aires - Foreign Minister H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Friday held a meeting with Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri as part of his current South America tour.

Sheikh Abdullah said his current visit to Argentine comes upon directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces to further promote economic, investment and tourism relations with the South American country.

Members of the delegation accompanying Sheikh Abdullah in his South America tour include Minister of State, Reem Al-Hashimi, Foreign Minister's Assistant for Economic Affairs, Khalid al-Ghaith, Dubai World Board Chairman and DP World Chairman, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and other officials are accompanying the Foreign Minister.

He further underscored the current visit as a way to explore investment opportunities in Argentine and further strengthen economic relations between the two countries through exchanging visits and information on trade and investments. He also stressed on the participation of Argentinean companies in exhibitions held in the UAE as a door for their products to the markets in the UAE and the region.

For his part, Macri expressed hopes that the current visit would contribute to further expanding cooperation and increasing trade between the UAE and Argentine.

Later, Sheikh Abdullah and the accompanying delegation visited Terminales Rio de la Plata (TRP) which is being run by DP World since 2005. TRP is international container facility in the Port of Buenos Aires stretching over a landside area of 43.5 hectares. TRP has a capacity for handling 831000 TEUs of containerized cargo per year.

He was received at TRP by Dubai World Board Chairman and DP World Chairman, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and DP World CEO Mohammed Sharaf and the port's senior officials. There, Sheikh Abdullah was briefed on the operations at the huge port.

He hailed DP World as a source of pride for the UAE. He said he was amazed by the achievements of the company which has become one of the top three marine terminal operators in the world.

DP World has the widest network of any other marine operator, with over 50 terminals spanning 30 countries and five continents to provide quality services designed to enhance customers' supply chain efficiency, including bringing together container and other terminals, free zones, logistics facilities, infrastructure developments and consultancy service where these services add value for customers.

DP World's Latin America portfolio includes Puerto Cabello in Venezuela, Puerto Caucedo in Dominican Republic, and Buenos Aries in Argentina. It recently won the concession to develop a terminal facility at Callao, Peru. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
