Abdullah bin Zayed meets UN Secretary General

New York - HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs met here yesterday with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

Sheikh Abdullah's meeting with the UN chief touched on a number of international and regional issues being discussed by the UN General Assembly, notably Iraq, Palestine, the Middle East and Afghanistan. The humanitarian role of the UAE in many troubled hotspots in the world was also discussed.

The UN Secretary General commended the UAE move to open its Embassy in Iraq and also write off Iraq's debt. Ban also praised the UAE for its support of the Israeli-Palestinians peace talks.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdullah met a number of foreign ministers on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting. Among them were the foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Sudan. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
