PARIS: Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a meeting in Paris on Friday with US Secretary of State John Kerry, with UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also participating.

Latest regional and international developments of common concerns figured high on the agenda of the Paris meeting which will lay the groundwork for a summit on May 13-14 in Washington and Camp David between US President Barack Obama and the six-nation GCC.

The meeting took stock of progress in operations launched by the coalition to restore stability and security in Yemen, support its legitimate government and put an end to regional interference that threatens strategic security in the region.

In this context, the two sides recognised the need for rallying regional and international efforts to enhance pillars of security, peace and stability in the region and to support countries to confront tremendous challenges including terrorism, extremism and violence and to stand against groups that seek to impose themselves as an alternative to the nation state.

Kerry and his GCC counterparts also discussed the P5+1 and Iran negotiations regarding its nuclear programme as well as preparation for the Camp David summit during which Washington will allay GCC's fears over the nuclear deal.

The GCC foreign ministers emphasised that the Camp David meeting will provide a fitting opportunity to share views with President Obama on wide ranging and evolving political developments the region is experiencing.

Figuring in the discussion also were other thorny issues including the Syrian file, the role of Iran in that respect and the GCC's efforts to reach a common stance towards the Syrian crisis. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
