Abdullah bin Zayed tours Expo 2010 Shanghai

Shanghai - Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited yesterday several Asian and European pavilions at the Expo 2010 Shanghai. Sheikh Abdullah's tour of the major international event running under the theme "Better City, Better Life", included the pavilions of China, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Belgium, Spain, France and Germany as well as the pavilion of United Nations.

He was accompanied by Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Media Council Saqr Ghobash, UAE Ambassador to China Omar Ahmed Nasib Bitar, Director of Department of Asian Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Ahmed Abdullah, Consul General of the UAE in Shanghai, Noura Mohamed Juma, Commissioner-General of the UAE pavilion Salem Al Ameri and Deputy Commissioner-General Abdullah Al-Aidaroos.

Sheikh Abdullah began his tour with a visit to the Chinese Pavilion, one of the largest in the Expo. The 63metre tall pavilion named 'Crown of the East' had began its construction earlier in 2007. There he watched presentations on the various provinces, cities and regions in China.

At the Japanese pavilion, which contained a number of halls, he watched presentations on the most advanced industries, especially in the field of cars, electronics, computers, robotics and photography.

Visiting the Korean pavilion, Sheikh Abdullah viewed presentations and displays that reflect the Korean culture and technological development.

Later he visited United Nations Pavilion, for the construction of which the UAE had partially contributed. He met with the UN officials who hailed UAE's great humanitarian role to alleviate human sufferings in many parts of the world, especially in regions affected by disasters, conflicts and warfare.

Sheikh Abdullah also visited the pavilions of Italy, Spain, France and Germany and viewed presentations reflecting the cultures and achievements of each country in several areas including environmental protection and alternative energy production. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
