Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage celebrates International Museum Day

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) celebrated International Museum Day last week. The celebration involved the entry of a group of schools from Al Ain City in a competition organised by the Al Ain National Museum.

The competition required the preparation of replicas of historic buildings, castles and forts. These models reflected Emiratis' daily life many years ago, such as the life of Bedouins in the desert.

The Historic Environment Department at ADACH addressed the Al Ain Educational Zone and put the idea forward to schools. In this way those who wished to participate in the competition were given the opportunity to do so.

The response was overwhelming with a large number of schools entering their distinctive models in line with the project's theme.

After careful consideration by the jury, first, second and third places went to the Al-Nahanyeh Model School, the Private Gulf Academy and the Good Youth respectively.

At the same time, the Al Ain National Museum held a workshop for school students focusing on handicrafts relating to the local heritage, such as the production of rope, traditional clothing - such as the burqa - and baskets weaved from palm fronds. At the end of the ceremony, Mohamed Amer Al-Neyadi, Director of the Historic Environment Department at ADACH, honoured the winning schools and gave them a commemorative coin which was issued to mark thirty years since the establishment of the Al Ain National Museum. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
