Abu Dhabi Awards Nominations to open next month

Following an overwhelming response to the Awards in 2006, the Abu Dhabi Awards 2007 is set to be launched across the Emirate from the second week of September, once again encouraging citizens and residents to recognize and honour the good deeds of others.

In line with the keenness of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to preserve the legacy of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and under the auspices of General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Awards recognize and celebrate those who have demonstrated exemplary acts of devotion, compassion and generosity in building a greater sense of community and social welfare within the Emirate.

The people of Abu Dhabi are given the chance to let their voices speak of great actions carried out by others and in doing so share in their goodwill. The nomination period for this year's campaign will run from 9th September to 7th October 2007. The winning individuals will be announced at a special Awards ceremony in mid-December 2007.

In 2006 the Awards generated more than 50,000 nominations with residents nominating through various outlets, including specially-designed booths that were strategically placed around the Emirate, roaming nomination stations, the Abu Dhabi Awards website (http://www.abudhabiawards.ae), and a dedicated fax and call centre number provided by Etisalat.

The same methods will be available for nomination this year, with the campaign being geared towards offering residents convenience and simplicity when nominating. Booths staffed by young volunteers from Takatof will be positioned in more than 25 locations around the Emirate, including malls in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, to provide information on the Awards and receive nominations.

Takatof is a voluntary social program, designed by the Emirates Foundation to create a culture of volunteering throughout the UAE. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
