Abu Dhabi residents have nominated more than 22,000 individuals for Abu Dhabi Awards which recognises the good deeds of selfless people in the emirate.
The nominees were recorded during the five-week nomination period that started on September 25, the organisers of the 2011 Abu Dhabi Awards said yesterday.
The biennial Abu Dhabi Awards are being held under the auspices of General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The nominees reflect the diversity of the community as Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee revealed that a total of 28,000 nomination forms were filled up by people representing 62 nationalities, living in the emirate.
Spirit of generosity
"We are delighted that a great number of people participated in recognising the spirit of generosity and goodness that pervade the emirate," said an Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee member. "This year's significant growth in unique nominations reflects that enthusiasm. We will be able to recognise some truly outstanding individuals from the number of nominations we received describing the achievements of selfless people, who give their time and effort for the benefit of the wider community," the member added.
