Abu Dhabi Crown Prince emphasizes strong UAE-US security relationship in meetings with senior US Defence officials

Washington D.C. - HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met yesterday with US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and senior Members of Congress.

During the meetings, which took place in Washington, DC, the Crown Prince underscored the strong, ongoing security relationship between the UAE and the US, and discussed continued bilateral efforts to promote security and stability in the Gulf region. The Crown Prince was joined in the meetings by UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Ambassador to the United States HE Yousef Al Otaiba.

In meeting with Secretary Gates, who was joined by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, the UAE delegation reiterated its support for Iraqi reconstruction efforts and humanitarian development in Afghanistan. They also hailed the continued military and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The Crown Prince continued his outreach to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, when he met with additional leaders from both chambers of the US Congress. In meetings with Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Senator Carl Levin (D-Michigan), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Senator Evan Bayh (D-Indiana), the UAE delegation discussed the strength of the UAE-US bilateral relationship and the need for continued cooperation on the security, military and energy fronts. The Crown Prince also met with Representative Gary Ackerman (D-New York), who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
