The Naturalisation and Residency Department in Abu Dhabi has cracked down on 24 illegal immigrants sheltered by UAE national identified as H.M at his residence in Bani Yas.

Brig. Nasser Al Awadhi Al Manhali, director general of the department, said the accused UAE national was referred to The Bani Yas Court of First Instance, which fined him Dh2.4 million for harbouring infiltrators reported to have entered into the country illegally. He added that the accused was also sentenced to four-month imprisonment, indicating that the jail term could be extended to six months in case he fails to pay the fine. Meanwhile, the infiltrators, all men, were sentenced to two-month imprisonment to be followed by deportation.

Al Manhali reiterated that the crackdown comes in line with the instructions of Interior Minister HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan to step up inspections round the clock, adding that the UAE national was arrested following verifications of reports he was harbouring the illegal immigrants. The public prosecution issued the arrest warrant.

He warned the UAE nationals and expatriates alike about offering shelters to violators and infiltrators. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
