President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued, in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, decree number 20 for 2006 on the re-organisation of the courts of the Ruler's Representatives in the Eastern and Western Regions of Abu Dhabi.

According to the decree, each of the Ruler's Representatives in the Eastern and Western regions will have a Diwan (court) with an under secretary to run its day-today affairs.

The court of the Ruler's Representative is mandated to provide support to the Ruler's Representative in the protocol matters such as receiving delegations visiting the region, preparing their visit programme, dealing with media on the court's activities, planning social awareness programmes for elderly citizens and people with special needs, encouraging women organisations that are active in attending to women's requirements in the Region, helping youth to get training during vacations, coordination of relief efforts during emergencies and natural calamities and evaluating needs of the citizens in the respective regions and reporting these needs to the concerned authorities.

Each court shall consist of departments for citizens affairs, protocol and support services.

Each court will be entitled to a budget, submitted by the court under secretary to the Executive Council for approval. The budget draft shall include the court's proposed operational and capital expenditure.

The Finance Department will provide necessary budget allocations for each court as per the Executive Council's instructions.

The Ruler's Representatives shall issue the bylaws regulating their respective courts' businesses.

According to article 7, the decree shall nullify decree number 38 for 1972 on the establishment of Ruler's Representative Court in the Eastern Region and decree number 2 for 1977 on the establishment of Ruler's Representative Court in the Western Region.

The decree shall be published in the official gazette and shall go into effect from the date of its issuance. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
