Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre honoured with UN international award

Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre, part of the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), has received the prestigious United Nations International Awards under the category of Promoting Whole-of-Government Approaches in the Information Age . The award is a strong testimony of Abu Dhabi government s leading global position in governmental excellence.

United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Wu Hongbo handed the award to Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of ADSIC, during the United Nations Public Services Forum held in Bahrain on 27 June. More than 700 people attended the event, including UAE officials, UN officials, presidents, ministers and senior government officials from the Middle East region.

On the occasion, Al Mansoori, commented, "Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre s winning affirms ADSIC globally recognised role in contributing to the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, which aims to build a knowledge-based society. As the government entity in charge of developing the Emirate s ICT capabilities, our efforts are aligned with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision of 2030. We are committed to continue developing innovative e-services that benefit the people of Abu Dhabi." Al Mansoori, added, "Winning the prestigious UN award in less than five years of establishing the Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre, is a solid proof of the efforts and standards of public services provided by the Abu Dhabi Government in general." The Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre provides citizens, residents, tourists, business customers as well as government employees, easy access to government-related information through various contact channels for. 800 555 has multi-lingual trained agents who offer 24/7 support to callers. Other channels include a 24/7 live chat, email and fax number. The centre is constantly evolving and expanding to cater to the increasing volume of incoming calls.

United Nations launched its UN Public Service Forum in 2000 to achieve a set of goals including honouring excellence in the public sector, enhancing the quality of public services, strengthening trust in governments as well as exploring the fields of innovation in corporate governance. Additionally, a significant goal is to share the most successful practices that enable governments to benefit each other.

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations is overseeing the awards program. The awards are handed personally by the Secretary- General of the UN. The awards include five categories: Preventing and combating corruption in the Public Service, Improving the delivery of services, Fostering participation in policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms, Advancing knowledge management in government and Promoting gender responsive delivery of public services.

The participants in the awards are accurately evaluated and the winners receive a global recognition that is strongly valued in the field of excellence of government services. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
