Abu Dhabi shifts into overdrive for F1 fever
posted on 28/10/2009

The Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management have shifted into top gear as they prepare to stage the first day-night Formula One race on Sunday, at one of the most technologically advanced racing circuits in the world.
"We are ready," said Richard Cregan, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit as the security cover around Yas Island tightened and a massive multi-media public service campaign was launched to mark the final days before the season-ending finale of one of the world's most watched sport.
A drive near and around the Yas Marina Circuit to get a feel of the Formula One fever was cut short by security personnel while inside the sprawling facility teams began unloading and setting up base for the last time this year.
The drivers have already started arriving and over the next two days get busy with appearances in public for their team principals and sponsors while the technical teams try and gather as much expertise as possible to tackle the challenges of a new circuit and an innovative day-night race.
The paddock and pit garages were reportedly filled with F1 team personnel busily unpacking their team's equipment
Hive of activities
The Abu Dhabi Corniche has been a hive of activity over the last week with music shows and other attractions including the F1 Fan Zone drawing fans and first-timers to the sport.
On Monday, organisers announced tickets were sold out while the news that Abu Dhabi Sports Channel will be broadcasting the race live was music to the ears of those who missed out.
One of the key areas that the organisers have been focusing on has been the travel and transport arrangements which is another huge challenge considering the fact that Yas Island on which the Yas Marina Circuit is built is a relatively new location while the huge numbers of over 50,000 plus fans makes the task that much more difficult.
In one of the biggest multi-media public service campaign, organisers are hoping to reach approximately 88 per cent of the UAE population while a major part of meet-and-greet welcome service by the Takatof volunteer group is guiding international visitors and fans.
"Ensuring that everyone is able to get to and from the track is a shared responsibility across many public and private organisations. We would like to thank all of those partners, and on behalf of the partners we urge the race going public to take the time and plan their day.
"There are numerous ways to get to Yas Marina Circuit, and we ask that you think about what way will best suit you," said Cregan, as he awaits the final test of Abu Dhabi's first Formula One race on Sunday. – Gulf News
