Under the patronage of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, will play host to the Environmental Conference and Exhibition 2005 on sustainable transportation in developing countries to be held from January 30 to February 2, 2005. Efforts are being continued to hold the exhibition and conference in Abu Dhabi International Exhibitions Centre, in collaboration with the General Exhibitions Corporation, GEC, Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency, ERWDA, and a German Corporation.

The exhibition aims at disseminating awareness on the importance of environment-friendly sustainable transportation and its correlation with socio-economic, health and environment issues. It is also designed to achieve consensus on broad principles and lines for sustainable transportation. It expected that a large number of Arab ministers of transportation, communication, health and environment, as well as their counterparts from the EU, USA, Canada, Japan and several African countries to take part in this major international environmental event.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Majid Al Mansouri, ERWDA Secretary General, said that Abu Dhabi would witness in January 2005 the largest event that bring together health, transportation and environment ministers from around the world. The aim of the gathering is to witness the issuance of the Abu Dhabi 2005 Declaration on sustainable development issues in developing countries and tackle means of filling the deep gap between developing and developed nations in the field of environment conservation, noting that the conference would discuss problems of sustainable transportation in developing countries.
