Abu Dhabi to spend US$200 billion in the next five years on urban development

Abu Dhabi has embarked upon an ambitious plan to develop its infrastructure and the 'Plan Abu Dhabi 2030' will be the comprehensive guideline for the development of the capital city for quarter a century into the future, according to Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General, Urban Planning, Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi.

Al Ahbabi said that a total of USD 200b will be pumped into various projects in the coming five years and the government's share will constitute only 40 percent of the total spending while the remaining share will come from the private sector. The real estate and construction sectors will witness an unprecedented growth as the plan visualises Abu Dhabi one among the largest capital cities of the world.

He said that Plan Abu Dhabi is drawn up in consultation with the most renowned world experts in the field. He noted that the Plan is based on principles of sustained development, and has taken into its consideration the future population and economic realities of Abu Dhabi. He said that the new Khalifa City will be announced soon and it will house all the government departments and ministries with the most modern amenities and utilities.

The plan also includes land and water transport systems including a railway line and metro. Al Ahbabi noted that the comprehensive plan takes into its consideration the need to protect the environment and the preservations of the biodiversity. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
