HE Mohamed AI Bowardi, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi unveiled a new approach to government, involving whole of government policy development, integrated strategic planning and performance management.

In recent months, the Abu Dhabi General Secretariat of the Executive Council has been working across government to identify comprehensive goals and priorities that will help Abu Dhabi to deliver its vision for a confident and secure society and an open, global and sustainable economy.

Yesterday, the 26 Abu Dhabi Government entities were tasked to initiate the necessary engagement activity to ensure staff, stakeholders, and the public, are aligned behind their approved strategic plans and priorities.

These goals and priorities are summarized in the Abu Dhabi Summary Strategic Plan. Delivery is being monitored, and entities supported, through a performance monitoring regime led by the General Secretariat.

The aim of the strategic planning process is to create the necessary alignment with the government's vision, and between all government entities, to build high performing government which is responsive and which can contribute to making Abu Dhabi a better place to live work and visit.

The process has involved two years of coordinated work across all 26 of the Abu Dhabi Government entities. Ten whole of government workshops and 350 meetings have been held, and so far eighteen goals, 202 priorities, 636 targets and 1,499 initiatives have been identified.

Mohamed AI Bowardi, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi said: "Through a high performing government we seek to ensure our aspirations are made real and delivered. As a government, we are committed to a society and economy built on the very best of foundations, a government which is responsive to people's needs and which positively impacts the lives of all those who live, work and visit." Abdulla AI Ahbabi, Head of the Performance Management Division ADGSEC said "Our government has a tremendously big and bold vision. Ultimately success will be driven by delivery - delivery by the people in government, their private sector partners and the people of Abu Dhabi.

"Through the strategic planning process we will be working to align the aspirations of the Executive Council with all the entities within government. We will monitor delivery and, where necessary, we will intervene with support designed to ensure our government's goals are achieved." Chairmen will reaffirm their understanding and commitment to good government today during a private meeting at the Crown Prince Court. Entities will be announcing their goals and priorities during April, May and June, beginning with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority on 20 April. – The Emirates News Agency, WAM
