Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) is in the process of increasing the quantities of gas supplied to its customers from 2.24 million cubic metres to 3.91 million cubic metres per day, up by around 75 per cent, said Mohammed Bin Abdullah Sahoo Al Suwaidi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited (Gasco).

In an augural speech to an introductory seminar held by Gasco in Sofitel Hotel in Abu Dhabi late on Tuesday to throw the light on the gas pipeline project from Habshan-Al-Maqta-Al-Taweela, Al Suwaidi said the additional quantities of gas will be ready as soon the project is over in early 2015.

The existing and new customers including Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company, Khalifa Port, Emirates Aluminium (Emal), and Dodsal, which is carrying out the project, participated in the seminar.

Earlier, Dodsal won a contract to carry out the project for US$450 million (Dhs1.66 billion). The company said it started the actual operations for carrying out the project as from the beginning of this week.

Al Suwaidi affirmed that Gasco, which is carrying out the project for Adnoc, is looking forward to meeting the increasing demand for gas in the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular as soon as the mammoth project is over.

Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz Al Ameri, Senior Vice President of Gasco, said the pipelines, which are 52 inch in diameter, would stretch for a total distance of 177 kilometres as follows: 125 kilometres from Habshan to Al-Maqta and 52 kilometres from Al-Maqta to Al Taweela.

He affirmed that some 3.3 million cubic metres of gas per day will be supplied to Emal factory in Al Taweela and other factories and power and water desalination stations in Abu Dhabi in addition to 6.6 million cubic feet of gas to Dubai. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
