Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for his substantial humanitarian support for Afghanistan. 'We highly appreciate these precious assistance which are not new from the UAE people who always stand beside the Afghan people in their ordeals through times,' Shahrani said during a meeting with a UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) team led by its Kabul office Chairman Ali Al Za'abi. He also thanked the RCA for offering relief supplies to the poor Afghans, which said, had alleviated their sufferings. 'We value the UAE relief assistance to Afghanistan especially in the fields of education and reconstruction,' he said, adding that more assistance are needed for the education sector.

Meanwhile, the RCA delegation met the Kabul Municipality Chairman, Mohammed Anwar, to assess relief aid needed urgently. Al Za'abi said the RCA would carry out a number of humanitarian programmes in the coming period with special emphasis on distribution of food parcels which 400 families have so far benefited from. He said the team distributed today 10,000 tonnes of food supplies to poor families around Kabul which will satisfy their needs for a month. He added the holy month of Ramadan would see extensive humanitarian operations including fasting-breaking meals, and distribution of Eid clothing and Zakat (alms). (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
