Afghan embassy reopened in Capital

Hamid Karzai, the Afghan interim leader, resumed Afghanistan's official diplomatic relations with the UAE yesterday, after reopening its embassy in the Capital and unfurling the national tricolour. The UAE has not had diplomatic relations with Afghanistan since September last year, when the government severed relations with the former Taliban regime for its involvement in international terrorism.

Diplomatic relations were resumed when Karzai officially declared the Afghan Embassy in the Capital reopened. At the flag-hoisting ceremony at Abu Dhabi Inter-Continental Hotel, Karzai said the reopening of the embassy will herald a new chapter in the relations with the UAE and other GCC countries. "The fluttering of this flag on UAE soil will be the foundation stone of a permanent friendship and brotherhood and constructive relations between the two countries," said the Afghan leader.
