The participants at the 13th African- Arab Parliamentary Conference, held with the participation of the UAE Parliamentary Division in Rabat from June 26- 27, called on Iran to immediately commence dialogue with the United Arab Emirates to settle the issue of the three UAE occupied islands: Tunb Greater, Tunb Lesser and Abu Mousa, amicably in accordance with the principles of international law.

They stressed in a communiqué the sovereignty of the UAE over the three islands.

The UAE was represented at the conference by Sultan Al Shamsi and Faisal Al Tunaiji, members of the Federal National Council (FNC). Al Shamsi and Al Tuniaji met on the sidelines of the conference with Dr Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, President of the House of Councillors. They exchanged views on a number of issues.

The communiqué called for reconciling between the diversity and social cohesion to build confidence in the Arab and African regions.

It reiterated the importance of coordination between the African- Arab Parliamentary Conference and international organisations such as UNESCO and other non-governmental Arab and African organisations in the area of strengthening the cultural diversity and dialogue. The conference called for bolstering the role of parliaments to help tackle the humanitarian challenges and adopt laws that combat smuggle of antiquities and recovery of stolen items.

The conferees called for support of African and Arab economies through conducive investment environment. They also called for setting up the Arab-African Fund to finance joint economic projects in line with the framework of implementation of Arab-African Development Strategies. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
