Arif Ahmed and Florian were once again in brilliant form and won the two-round International Grand Prix yesterday. The jumping arena at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, where the three-day CSI-A Abu Dhabi 2003 Championship concluded yesterday, was once again on fire with a classy display of Ahmed and Florian.

In making it to the second round of eight riders, Arif Ahmed and four others had all recorded zero faults but the UAE ace had the best timing of 86.57.

It was followed by Italy's Ragheb Ibrahim Bacha on Lorenzo (86.86), Princess Haya of Jordan on King Cavalier (89.16), Prince Abdullah bin Mateb Al Saud on Kralla (89.72) and Kuwait's Noaf Al Essa on Omnia (95.78).

Emerging as the topper of round one helped Arif Ahmed as he was the last to go out and knew his job. Among the four others, only Noaf Al Essa had a clear round but was timed at 59:05. Jordan's Ibrahim Bisharat, who had made it with just one fault, recorded the fastest timing in the second but toppled one fence while clocking just 50:53.

Arif Ahmed, who had made two perfect rounds on Florian the previous day to star in the UAE team triumph, went about his task confidently and Florian obliged with another clear round in a smart timing of just 53.53 seconds. The crowd rose to their feet as Arif Ahmed went on a victory lap in jubilant style. The 23-year-old Ahmed said yesterday's Grand Prix triumph was his biggest in the UAE. (The Gulf News)
