(WAM) The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) have intensified relief measures for Afghan crisis both in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Associated Press of Pakistan, APP reported. A new consignment of medical supplies for the Afghan Red Crescent 's 48 health clinics are due to arrive in Peshawar on Friday, from where they will be transported overland by the ICRC to Kabul for distribution, officials at PRCS said here on Wednesday.

While the IFRC is responsible for support of these clinics, the ICRC has a leading agency role in Afghanistan itself. The clinics have continued to function despite this week's air attacks. With a possible influx of 500,000 Afghan refugees and in response to the IFRC's appeal for 40 million Swiss francs, relief has been flowing in from the national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the world, according to the report.
