Organised efforts to promote Al Ain Aerobatic Championship succeeded with over 55,000 people turning up to witness the show in the first two days.

The air shows, which are hosted by Al Ain every year, have firmed up the city's regional and international position as a major tourist destination.

Al Ain Aerobatic Championship is the only event of its kind in the world held in this time of the year. So the entire world's attention is riveted on this city as it offers thrilling aerobatic displays by the world's finest pilots.

Al Ain City has become a centre for several tourism, social and recreational activities and is attracting numerous visitors from inside and outside the UAE round the year.

Al Ain, located in the eastern region of the UAE, is 160 kilometres from the capital Abu Dhabi. The Hajar mountains spreading from the Sultanate of Oman touch its borders. In the southwest it meets Al Ruba Al Khali, desert of Saudi Arabia and occupies an area of 12,955 square kilometres.

Al Ain comprises seven palm oases where man settled ages ago and built houses and castles. It has several attractive tourist locations and several green areas. It has more than 71 parks earning it the title of Garden City. Al Ain has also several other tourist locations such as the ice rink, the zoo, Jebel Hafit, high class hotels and residences, the historic camel bazaar, old souks, Ain Al Faydha, and Mabzara.

The city inherited cultural and historic values of several civilisations, some of which date back to 3000 BC. (Khaleej Times)
