Al Dhafrah to organise maiden heritage race

A heritage camel race will be held on Friday at Madinat Zayed, as part of the fourth season of Al Dhafrah Festival which kicked off last Thursday and ends on Saturday.

The festival is organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) under the patronage of General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Only citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries aged between 18 and 70 can enter their animals in the race. Each participant must pass a medical test in addition to producing their passports or ID cards and two photos when registering.

The participants should also wear protective gear including a helmet. The races are divided into the following laps: those aged from 18 to 30 years old, one lap of 6km; from 31 to 49 years old, one lap of 4km and from 50 to 70 years old, one lap of 600 metres.

The camel race will take place in the evening, with winners receiving cars and cash prizes. The camels of sheikhs are strictly prohibited from participating. – Gulf News
