Al Diyafa Street will now be called '2nd of December'

The famous Al Diyafa Street in Dubai has been renamed the ‘2nd of December' to mark the 40th National Day.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued the order to rename the street.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said the 2.5-kilometre Al Diyafa Street extends from Union House on Jumeirah Street to the Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout.

Al Tayer pointed out that the importance of the street stems from the importance of Union House, where the declaration of the Federation was signed on December 2, 1971.

Al Diyafa is one of Dubai's strategic business areas, and Al Diyafa Street is one of the oldest roads.

Al Tayer said that in the next 48 hours, the RTA will carry out the necessary measures to implement Sheikh Mohammad's order and replace street signs.

Sheikh Khalifa highway

Meanwhile, as part of 40th National Day celebrations, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, inaugurated the new Sheikh Khalifa Highway linking Dubai to Fujairah.

The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works. The Dubai-Fujairah Road will reduce the travel time between Dubai and Fujairah from 90 minutes to 30 minutes.
