Director General of Al Gharbia Watersports Festival Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei said the third edition of the event will kick off tomorrow. This came at a press conference attended by Hamad Bin Azzan Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Western Region Development Council.
The Al Gharbia Watersports Festival will be organised for 10 days in its third edition in Al Mirfa City on the coasts of Abu Dhabi's Western Region on Thursday, March 24 till April 2, 2011 under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region.
Al Mazrouei extended heartfelt thanks to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council for the continuous and unlimited support to the Western Region and the development projects in the region.
"Al Gharbia Watersports Festival 2011 is witnessing a noticeable increase in the number of the participating countries, with 13 countries confirming entry so far, including debut for some countries. The total prizes amount to about one million Dirham," he said.
This year's festival includes a number of new and varied programs alongside the activities hosted by the festival in its last two editions. This is part of our keenness to meet the aspirations of all participants and Watersports' fans and to attract the largest number of visitors possible. The festival is expected to have about 100 thousand visitors, he added.
A number of entertainment programs will be organised on the sidelines of the festival including a heritage village that will exhibit the works of the families in Al Gharbia, in addition to a number of activities that will take the event out of the sports scope to be considered as a distinct activity that attracts all social groups and a destination of choice for all visitors and tourists who flow into the region from inside the country and overseas.
He added that the objective is to establish the culture of sporting and tourist activities in this region which is rich in natural and geographical attractions that enable it to be one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the region and the entire world, in the light of the continuous support by our wise leadership. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
