Former US Vice President Al Gore has praised the UAE for being a model of tolerance and diversity. "I look at what I found in my first visit to the UAE and I see a world that is very promising. People from dozens of different nationalities, diverse cultures and different religions, all in the land of Islamic faith living together in harmony and tolerance ", Gore said in a lecture delivered at the Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow Up earlier in the week. "This a mark of the wisdom of your leadership, it is the mark of your culture", he told the audience who included Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister.

Gore expressed hope that the UAE example would spill over to the rest of Arab World. "I wish and pray that the future of Arab World looks more like the future of Abu Dhabi and other Emirates, an area of tolerance and diversity where progress and wisdom is enshrined in policies and investments". On the US-UAE relationship, Gore described this relationship as vibrant and excellent. The US, he said, was one of the great first nations anywhere in the world that established diplomatic relations with the Emirates in 1971. Economic ties are so large that the UAE is now the second largest market for the USA in the region. Security relationship is also crucial and progressing.

Gore pointed out that the West is indebted to Arab civilization for the crown jewel of science and mathematics and also for the first discoveries in astronomy. "The West as whole is indebted to the Arab civilization, which gave way to the Renaissance and the Age of Reason. Gore complimented the Zayed Centre for promoting a rare dialogue between the Arab world and the rest of the world. "I think that the League of the Arab states was very wise to place this important Centre here in Abu Dhabi. It has been in good hands, it has been shepherded wisely and it has been making a good contributions to the kind of understanding that is essential if we are to build the kind of world all of us desire.
